Short Film Commission – Durham University Collections

I was commissioned by Durham University Collections to make 3 films for their Artist Film Programme, part of Summer in the City arts festival.

In lockdown my 3 children were at home, using my workspace and computer. To continue to make work, I made quick intuitive drawings in different spaces, animating the process, using a smart-phone app. I won a home residency with Contemporary Visual Arts Network NE, to develop this further. Durham University Collections then commissioned me to develop the drawings into films.

My moving image works link interior and exterior worlds, something we have all had to think about in lockdown. These new drawings are a meditative release. They respond to this unique situation, in my life and the world. I have developed 3 drawings, into mini films. These will eventually have soundtracks and be part of a larger series.

You can see them on the Summer in the City website: https://sitcfestival.org/short-film-programme/
