We are stardust, we are golden

WE ARE STARDUST, WE ARE GOLDEN – STILL

This dreamlike, immersive installation combines moving image, projection, sound and sculpture. It was created during Collective Studio, an emerging artist programme run by NewBridge Project and Newcastle University.

The physical sculptural elements relate directly to elements of the moving image and the sound. For example, scratches in the film and audio were echoed using thread, wrapped across frames, which in turn created scratchy shadows. The title is taken from the Joni Mitchel song ‘Woodstock’ which continues: We are stardust, Billion year old carbon, We are golden, Caught in the devils bargain, And we’ve got to get ourselves, Back to the garden. The work questions separate categories of subject and object or mind and universe, promoting an interactive and reciprocal relationship with nature.
